SmartRG 515AC: Setup your Wireless Network

What you need before you begin:

  • Your SmartRG 515AC modem/router, plugged in and powered on.
  • A computer, tablet, phone, or other device with internet browsing software installed – Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari, are typical examples.
  • A connection between your device and the SmartRG 515AC. We recommend doing this by connecting an Ethernet cord from your device to one of the LAN ports on the back of the SmartRG 515AC, but you can also do this using WiFi.

 Let's begin:

  1. Navigate to the modem's web interface. (http://192.168.1.1/admin)
  2. Click on the Wireless link.
  3. Click on the 2.4GHz Wireless link.
  4. Check the Enable Wireless box.
  5. Set the SSID to your desired wireless network name.
  6. Click Apply/Save
  7. Click on the Security link.
  8. Select the SSID name created in step 5.
  9. Select your desired Network Authentication method.
    • Mixed WPA/WPA2 -PSK is good for backwards compatibility with older devices. (Recommended for most users)
    • WPA2 -PSK is more secure but may not work with older devices. (Recommended for users with newer devices)
    • Open is unsecure, no password required.
    • Shared is the equivalent of WEP. WEP encryption can "easily" be broken in less than 7 minutes.
    • 802.1x, WPA, and WPA2 require radius servers and as such are not generally suitable for home use. (Note: PSK versions do NOT require a companion server and are suitable for home use)
  10. Enter your desired WPA/WAPI passphrase (or Network Key if you selected Shared), this will be your wireless password.
  11. Click Apply/Save.

5GHz Instructions

It is recommended to name the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks different in some way to ensure devices don't get 'confused' and jump back and forth between networks.

  1. Navigate to the modem's web interface. (http://192.168.1.1/admin)
  2. Click on the Wireless link.
  3. Click on the 5GHz Wireless link.
