ZyXel VSG1432 - Modem Setup

Please Note: We recommend that you are directly connected from your computer to your modem during the setup

The ZyXel VSG1432 Modem can be setup in Routed or Bridged mode.

Routed Mode is recommended for most users as it allows you to take full advantage of all of the ZyXel VSG1432's capabilities.

Bridged Mode is only recommended for advanced users who intend to use their own stand-alone router/networking equipment.

Routed Setup - AB/BC

These instructions are intended for customers using the ZyXel VSG1432 DSL modem in our Alberta and British Columbia service areas. If you are located in any other region, please use the setup guide located here.

  1. Open a web browser and navigate to http://192.168.1.1/.
  2. Enter the configuration username and password (these are "admin" and "1234" by default)
  3. Hover your mouse cursor over the Network Settings tab (at bottom middle of the page)
  4. Click on the Broadband link
  5. Ensure the PTM over ADSL State is set to Disable
  6. In the Modify column of the Broadband WAN Interface table, click the trash can next to each interface listed to clear the table. In the table
  7. Click the Add New WAN Interface button
  8. Ensure the Active check box is checked
  9. Set the Name field to any reference name you'd like (if you aren't sure what to use, you can use TSI_ADSL)
  10. Set the Type dropdown menu to ADSL over ATM
  11. Set the Mode dropdown menu to Routing
  12. Set the Encapsulation dropdown menu to PPPoE
  13. Set the IPv6 Mode dropdown menu as desired (if you're not using IPv6 or aren't sure whether or not to use it, leave this set to Disable)
  14. Set the VPI field to 0
  15. Set the VCI field to 33
  16. Set the Encapsulation Mode dropdown menu to LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING
  17. Set the Service Category dropdown menu to UBR without PCR
  18. In the PPP User Name field, enter your TekSavvy DSL username
  19. In the PPP Password field, enter you TekSavvy DSL password
  20. Ensure the PPP Auto Connect check box is checked
  21. If you are using TekTalk VoIP service, ensure the PPPoE Passthrough check box is checked, otherwise leave this unchecked
  22. Skip down to the Routing Feature section and ensure the NAT Enable check box is checked
  23. Ensure the IGMP Proxy Enable check box is checked
  24. Ensure the Apply as Default Gateway check box is checked
  25. Click the Apply button to create the new interface, save your changes, and return to the Broadband WAN Interface table. In the table, you should now see the connection interface you just created.
  26. Click the Add New WAN Interface button again
  27. Ensure the Active check box is checked
  28. Set the Name field to any reference name you'd like (if you aren't sure what to use, you can use TSI_VDSL)
  29. Set the Type dropdown menu to ADSL/VDSL over PTM
  30. Set the Mode dropdown menu to Routing
  31. Set the Encapsulation dropdown menu to PPPoE.
  32. Set the IPv6 Mode dropdown menu as desired (if you're not using IPv6 or aren't sure whether or not to use it, leave this set to Disable)
  33. In the PPP User Name field, enter your TekSavvy DSL username
  34. In the PPP Password field, enter you TekSavvy DSL password
  35. Ensure the PPP Auto Connect check box is checked
  36. If you are using TekTalk VoIP service, ensure the PPPoE Passthrough check box is checked, otherwise leave this unchecked
  37. Skip down to the Routing Feature section and ensure the NAT Enable check box is checked
  38. Ensure the IGMP Proxy Enable check box is checked
  39. Ensure the Apply as Default Gateway check box is checked
  40. Click the Apply button to create the new interface, save your changes, and return to the Broadband WAN Interface table. In the table, you should now see the two connection interfaces you just created. Your setup is complete and you should now be able to surf!

Bridged Setup - AB/BC

These instructions are intended for customers using the ZyXel VSG1432 DSL modem in our Alberta and British Columbia service areas. If you are located in any other region, please use the setup guide located here.

  16. Click the Apply button to create the new interface, save your changes, and return to the Broadband WAN Interface table. In the table, you should now see the connection interface you just created.
  17. Click the Add New WAN Interface button again
  18. Ensure the Active check box is checked
  19. Set the Name field to any reference name you'd like (if you aren't sure what to use, you can use TSI_VDSL)
  20. Set the Type dropdown menu to ADSL/VDSL over PTM
  21. Set the Mode dropdown menu to Bridge
  22. Click the Apply button to create the new interface, save your changes, and return to the Broadband WAN Interface table. In the table, you should now see the two connection interfaces you just created.

You can now connect an Ethernet cord from one of the LAN ports of your ZyXel VSG1432 modem to the WAN/Internet port of your wireless router. You will need to configure your router to use the PPPOE connection type with the username and password provided by Teksavvy. Please follow this link for basic instructions on setting up some of the more popular router brands.

Wireless Setup

  1. Open a web browser. (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.)
  2. Enter http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar then press enter.
  3. Log in using your username and password.
    • Default Username: admin
    • Default Password: 1234
  4. Hover your mouse pointer over the Network Settings tab which is found in bottom center of screen.
  5. Click on the Wireless link.
  6. Set the Wireless field to Enable.
  7. Set the Channel field to Auto(or your preferred wireless channel)
    • Note: Channels 1,6, and 11 have the least channel overlap.
  8. Enter your preferred Wireless Network Name(SSID).
  9. Set the Security Level to More Secure.
  10. Set the Security Mode to WPA2-PSK.
  11. If you prefer an automatically generated password then record the Password.
  12. If you would prefer a custom password, uncheck Generate password automatically and enter your desired password in the Password field.
  13. Click the more... link.
  14. If you have older devices, set WPA-PSK Compatible to Enable.
  15. Click Apply
  • WPA/WPA2 (TKIP/AES) - Selects WPA or WPA2 depending on the capability of the connecting device. (Recommended in most cases)
  1. Perform the same steps for the Guest Wireless Network if desired.
  2. Click Save.

ADSL Routed Setup

This setup is to be used by customers in Ontario and Quebec. If you are located in Alberta or British Columbia please use the setup guide located here.

  1. Navigate to the modem's web interface. (192.168.1.1)
  2. Log in using the default username and password. (admin/1234)
  3. Hover over the Network Settings tab. (bottom center of screen)
  4. Click on the Broadband link.
  5. If an interface is already present in the table, click the trash can icon to delete it.
  6. Click the Add New WAN Interface button.
  7. Check the Active check box.
  8. Set the Name to whatever you would like. (or TekSavvy if you can't think up a name)
  9. Set the Type to ADSL over ATM
  10. Set the Mode to Routing.
  11. Set the Encapsulation to PPPoE.
  12. Set the VPI/VCI fields to the appropriate settings as indicated below
    • ON/QC: 0 and 35
    • AB/BC: 0 and 33
    • Eastern Provinces: Set as directed by TekSavvy
  13. Set the Encapsulation Mode: to LLC/Snap-Bridging.
  14. Set the Service Category to UBR Without PCR.
  15. Enter your DSL user name into the PPP User Name field.
  16. Enter your DSL password into the PPP Password field.
  17. Check the PPP Auto Connect check box.
  18. Set the PPPoE Service Name to whatever you would like. (or TekSavvy)
  19. Set IP Address to Obtain an IP Address Automatically.
  20. Check the NAT Enable check box.
  21. Check the IGMP Proxy Enable check box.
  22. Check the Apply as Default Gateway check box.
  23. Set DNS to Dynamic.
  24. Click Apply.

ADSL Bridged Setup

This setup is to be used by customers in Ontario and Quebec. If you are located in Alberta or British Columbia please use the setup guide located here.

  1. Navigate to the modem's web interface. (192.168.1.1)
  2. Log in using the default username and password. (admin/1234)
  3. Hover over the Network Settings tab. (bottom center of screen)
  4. Click on the Broadband link.
  5. If an interface is already present in the table, click the trash can icon to delete it.
  6. Click the Add New WAN Interface button.
  7. Check the Active check box.
  8. Set the Name to whatever you would like. (or TekSavvy if they can't think up a name)
  9. Set the Type to ADSL over ATM
  10. Set the Mode to Bridge.
  11. Set the VPI/VCI fields to the appropriate settings as indicated below
    • ON/QC: 0 and 35
    • AB/BC: 0 and 33
    • Eastern Provinces: Set as directed by TekSavvy.
  12. Set the Encapsulation Mode: to LLC/Snap-Bridging.
  13. Set the Service Category to UBR Without PCR.
  14. Leave all other fields to their defaults.
  15. Click Apply.

You can now connect your wireless router and set it up for a PPPOE connection, using the username and password provided by Teksavvy. Please follow this link to the most popular router models.
