Sagemcom 2864 - Setup

WHAT YOU NEED BEFORE YOU BEGIN:

  • Your Sagemcom 2864 modem/router, plugged in and powered on
  • A computer, tablet, phone, or other device with internet browsing software installed – Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari, are typical examples
  • A connection between your device and the Sagemcom 2864 - We recommend doing this by connecting an Ethernet cord from your device to one of the LAN ports on the back of theSagemcom 2864, but you can also do this using WiFi.

Routed Mode Setup

You plan on using the built-in wireless router functions of the Sagemcom 2864.


  1. Navigate to the modem's web interface. (http://192.168.2.1)
  2. Login using the default username and password. (admin for both)
  3. Click the Internet link. Found on the left hand side of page
  4. Enter your DSL username into the User ID field.
  5. Enter your DSL password into the Password field.
  6. Click the Save button

Bridged Mode Setup

You plan on using your own wireless router with the Sagemcom 2864 instead of the built-in wireless router functions.


  1. Navigate to the modem's web interface. (http://192.168.2.1)
  2. Login using the default username and password. (admin for both)
  3. Click the Internet link. Left hand side of page
  4. Click on the Internet tab. Top of page
  5. Clear the User ID and Password fields.
  6. Click the Save button.
  7. Click on the Wireless link. Left hand side of page
  8. Select Disable for Primary Wireless Network and Guest Wireless Network.
  9. Click the Save button.
  10. Click on the Network link. Left hand side of page
  11. Select Disable for DHCP Status.
  12. Click the Save button.

You can now connect your wireless router and set it up for a PPPOE connection, using the username and password provided by Teksavvy. Please follow this link to the most popular router models.

Wireless Setup


  1. Navigate to the modem's web interface. (http://192.168.2.1)
  2. Login using the default username and password.
  3. Click on the Wireless link. Left hand side of page
  4. Select Enable for the Primary Wireless Network.
  5. Select Enable for Broadcast Primary SSID.
  6. Set the SSID to whatever you would like your network to be named.
  7. Set the Password to your desired password.
  8. Select the Security Mode which best suits your needs.
    • No Security - No password is required making it simple to log into, dangerously unsecure.
    • WEP-64 or WEP-128 - Good compatibility with older devices and suitable security against the average person but WEP can be broken in less than 7 minutes with easily obtained tools.
    • WPA-PSK (TKIP) - Decent compatibility with many older devices, suitable security.
    • WPA2-PSK (AES) - Strong encryption, poor compatibility with older devices.
    • WPA/WPA2 (TKIP/AES) - Selects WPA or WPA2 depending on the capability of the connecting device. (Recommended in most cases)
  9. Perform the same steps for the Guest Wireless Network if desired.
  10. Click Save.
