Overage Charges

Bandwidth overage charges are calculated based on the calendar month (1-31). They apply if you are on a capped plan (150 GB or 400 GB), once downloads made between 8 a.m. and 2 a.m. have, over the course of a calendar month, exceeded the cap you are paying for.

The overage rates are as follows:

Overage charges are based on the calendar month. But they are charged as post-paid items on the invoice for your next pre-paid period for TekSavvy services -- which may run on a different billing cycle.  That means that, for some customers whose invoices are generated close to the end of the calendar month, post-paid overage charges may appear on the invoice two pre-paid periods after usage.

You can avoid overage charges in a couple of ways:

  1. Monitor usage on your account, using the MyAccount customer portal. Email alerts are also sent when you hit 75, 90 and 100 percent of your cap. 
  2. Within your speed tier, increase or eliminate your bandwidth cap if you are beginning to exceed it regularly. If this changes before the 28th of the calendar month, we will apply the change to the current month’s usage and, instead of overage, charge you the difference between the two plans. Bandwidth cap changes made on the 29th, 30th, or 31st of a calendar month apply only as of the subsequent month.

Q: How do I check my usage?
A: You can check your usage in your MyAccount portal.

Q: How will I know when I am over?
A: We’ve provided a couple of options for you to monitor your usage:

  1. You may log into MyAccount to check your usage at any time.
  2. We will send a series of email notifications to the email account on file informing you that you are approaching the bandwidth limit of your chosen service package. These notifications will be sent as your account hits the following thresholds: 75%, 90% and 100%.

Please ensure that your account information is up to date in MyAccount to receive these notifications.

Q: What are my options when it comes to overages?
A: TekSavvy offers unlimited bandwidth packages for all of our Internet services, and encourages heavy users to consider it. To switch to Unlimited, call us at 1.877.779.1575, or visit your MyAccount.

Q: Does upload count toward my total usage?
A: No, only downloading counts towards your usage total.

Q: Is unlimited downloading still available from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m.?
A: Yes. Downloads during these hours do not count towards the bandwidth limit on capped plans.
