SmartRG 505N: Modem Setup (ADSL) (Routed)

These instructions will result in your SmartRG SR505N modem being setup in routed mode for an ADSL connection. This configuration should be used if you do NOT intend to make use of your own stand-alone router.

Note: This configuration will not work with any of our VDSL packages. VDSL packages have upload speeds of 10Mbps.

  1. Open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc.) and navigate to the modem's web interface. (http://192.168.1.1)
  2. Click on the Advanced Configuration link. (Top right corner)
  3. Enter the Admin username and password. (Both of these are admin by default)
  4. Click on the Advanced Setup link.
  5. Click on the WAN Service link.
  6. If there is anything present in the Wide Area Network (WAN) Service Setup table, check the Remove box(es) and click the Remove button.
  7. Click on the Layer2 Interface link.
  8. Click on the PTM Interface link.
  9. If there is anything present in the DSL PTM Interface Configuration table, check the Remove box(es) and click the Remove button.
  10. Click on the ATM Interface link.
  11. If there is anything present in the DSL ATM Interface Configuration table, check the Remove box(es) and click the Remove button.
  12. Click the Add button.
  13. Enter 0 for the VPI field and 35 for the VCI field.
  14. Check the Path0 (Fast) and Path1 (Interleaved) boxes.
  15. Set the DSL Link Type to EoA
  16. Set the Encapsulation Mode to LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING
  17. Set the Service Category to UBR Without PCR
  18. Click Apply/Save.
  19. Click the WAN Service link.
  20. Click the Add button.
  21. Select the appropriate WAN Service Interface Configuration value from the drop down list, this should be something along the lines of atm0/(4_0_35).
  22. Click Next.
  23. Select PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE).
  24. Set the 802.1P Priority field to -1.
  25. Set the 802.1Q VLAN ID field to -1.
  26. Click Next.
  27. Enter your DSL username into the PPP Username field. (example@teksavvy.com)
  28. Enter your DSL password into the PPP Password field.
  29. Check the Enable Firewall box.
  30. Check the Enable NAT box.
  31. If you are using a VoIP service such as TekTalk, check the Enable SIP box.
  32. Click Next.
  33. Click Next. (Routing -- Default Gateway page)
  34. Click Next. (DNS Server Configuration page)
  35. Click Apply/Save (WAN Setup - Summary page)

Congratulations, your modem has now been setup for routed mode on an ADSL connection!
