Hitron CGN3 / CGNM-3550 - How To Switch To Bridge Mode Or Disable Wireless

 Bridge Mode Setup

You can bridge this modem in order to use your own personal wireless router or system to provide wireless instead.

  1. Disconnect the coaxial cable from the Hitron CGN3 / CGNM-3550 (This will help to prevent MAC lock if you already have multiple devices plugged into the modem)
  2. Navigate to the Hitron CGN3 / CGNM-3550's user interface. (192.168.0.1)
  3. Enter the administrative username and password in the Username and Password fields, then click Login.
    • If you have not altered the username and password, use the default credentials of cusadmin for the username and password for the password.

  4. Click on the Basic tab.
  5. Click on the Gateway Function tab.
  6. Set the Residential Gateway Function to Disabled.
  7. Click on Save Changes
  8. You’ll be advised that all of your device’s router features are about to be switched off. Click OK to continue, and the device will reboot into Bridge Mode, serving as a modem only. Bridge_Click.JPG
  9. Reconnect the coaxial cable on the back of the modem at this time.
  10. You may need to unplug your modem a full 3 minutes from the power source and plug it back in.
  11. Now set up your router for use with Cable internet service!

 Wireless Only Disable Setup

This is not recommended but it is possible to only disable the wireless and leave all other features active. Please note functions like the firewall, port forwarding, QoS, etc would still be in effect if they are put into the modem. 

    1. Disconnect the coaxial cable from the Hitron CGN3 / CGNM-3550 (This will help to prevent MAC lock if you already have multiple devices plugged into the modem)
    2. Navigate to the Hitron CGN3 / CGNM-3550's user interface. (192.168.0.1)
    3. Enter the administrative username and password in the Username and Password fields, then click Login.
      • If you have not altered the username and password, use the default credentials of cusadmin for the username and password for the password.

    4. Click on the Wireless tab.
    5. Under Basic Settings, 2.4G Click Wireless Enabled to Off
    6. Click Save Changes
    7. Click 5G and under Basic Settings, 2.4G Click Wireless Enabled to OffDisable_Wireless.jpg
    8. Click Save Changes
    9. Now unplug the power from your modem for a full 3 minutes and then plug it back in to take effect. 
    10. Now set up your router for use with Cable internet service!
