In this article, we will review the best way for testing your internet speed.
Important Notes:
We are an 'Up to' service, and maximum internet speed is not guaranteed: actual speed experienced may vary due to technical factors and practices: learn more here.
The most accurate method of testing your speed is directly connected to the modem via an ethernet connection
Performing 2 or 3 speed tests on a few devices is the best way to get the most accurate results.
At the time of this writing, Google speed test (the default search) is not accurate. It uses busier servers farther away (normally out of Canada). Please do not use this site when testing for speed accuracy,
TekSavvy does not own www.speedtest.net or www.fast.com - they are simply recommended and well-tested websites.
The Basic Speed Test
Set your server by clicking 'Change Server'
Speedtest servers may perform differently. Generally, you will get faster speeds from servers closer to you. We recommend testing to a variety of test servers, starting with a TekSavvy Server closest to you for the best results.
Click on the 'Go' button
When the speed test is complete your results will populate.
The Advanced Speed Test
We may need to run a more advanced speed test for customers on higher speed tiers (1 Gig and above) for accurate results.
Go to https://fast.com
Wait for the test to finish (the results of this test do not matter)
Click 'Show More Info'
An upload test will begin, simply hit the pause button.
Click on Settings on the bottom left.
Set Parallel Connections to:
Min 30
Max 30
Set Test Duration to:
Min 30
Max 30
Check off all the check boxes for the following:
Measure loaded latency during upload
Always show all metrics
Save config for this device
Click Save
Wait for the new test to complete to view your results.
