Using Star Codes & Features with TekTalk

This article will cover how to use Star Codes and features on our TekTalk Phone Service.

A Brief Overview of Features

Basic Features

These features are included with any TekTalk package.

Caller ID

  • This feature allows TekTalk users to see who is calling by showing their name and telephone number.

  • For this feature to be useful, your telephones/handsets must have a visual display, and support this feature.

  • After one to two telephone rings, the name and number of the caller will be displayed, including calls made from non-published numbers. If a caller has intentionally blocked the display of their name and number, ‘Private Number’ and ‘Private Name’ will appear on your display screen.

  • You can withhold your Outbound Caller ID by using the TekTalk Portal (under Settings, Calls). This is accessible to TekTalk Premium and Unlimited customers only.

  • Displaying incoming call name and number (individually or both) can be done in the TekTalk Portal (under Settings, Calls). This is accessible to TekTalk Premium and Unlimited customers only.

Basic 911

  • TekTalk provides Basic 9-1-1 service, which first connects 9-1-1 calls to a national emergency call centre. The call taker will ask the caller to identify his or her location to the 9-1-1 operator, and then the call taker will route the call to the emergency response centre serving that area. In the event that the 9-1-1 is disconnected or the caller cannot speak to confirm their location, the national emergency call centre will route the 9-1-1 call to the emergency response centre service the service address last registered with TekSavvy. Address registrations and updates may be done in your at MySavvy Portal.

  • 9-1-1 calling will not function in the event of a power or broadband outage, or if your broadband service (whether provided by TekSavvy or another service provider) is suspended or disconnected. More information can be found here.

Call Forwarding

  • See Star Features Below for full detail.

Call Rejection

  • See Star Features Below for full detail.

Advanced Features

These features are included with the TekTalk Premium and Unlimited packages.

Do Not Disturb

  • The Do Not Disturb feature allows you to temporarily disable your line to prevent inbound calls.

  • See Star Features Below for full detail

Three-Way Calling

  • The Three-Way Calling feature allows you to connect up to 3 different callers (including yourself) at one time.

    1. To enable this feature, after connecting to the first caller, you would:

    2. Press the FLASH or LINK button on your handset, wait for dial tone, then dial *71.

    3. Next you should dial the second number.

    4. When the second party picks up, press FLASH or LINK on the handset to connect all three people.

Call Transfer

  • Call transfer is functionally the same as "three-way calling".

    5. You can now hang up and the other two parties will stay connected.

SimRing

  • The SimRing feature allows you to set a list of numbers which will ring (in addition to your own number) whenever someone calls you. Any of the other numbers that ring can answer the call.

  • See Star Features Below

Advanced Voice Mail

  • Advanced Voice Mail allows you to customize how and when your messages are delivered to you. You can set different options for each type of call. This feature allows callers to leave a voicemail for a TekTalk user if the user is unavailable. It can be managed both through your handset connected to the Phone Adapter (dial *98 and follow the prompts), or by using the TekTalk Portal.

Caller ID Block

  • The Caller ID Block feature allows you to block your Caller ID on outbound calls.

    • To enable this feature, you will need to:

      • Dial *67 before you dial the number.

        • Note that if you wait too long to dial the number after dialing 67, your phone may be temporarily disabled. You will have to dial 68 to start over.

Visual Call Waiting

  • Visual call waiting not only shows you who is calling, but it also displays the information of who is calling while you are already on the phone. This feature allows you to see who is calling (name and telephone number) while you are on a call.

    • Note that for this feature to be useful, your telephones/handsets must have a visual display, and support this feature.

    • When you wish to take the second incoming call, you simply press the FLASH button to switch between the current call and the new call.

TekTalk Portal

  • Our TekTalk Portal allows you to manage all of the features that are included with your TekTalk service. To access the TekTalk Portal:

  • The TekTalk Portal can be used to manage all the features of your TekTalk.

  • Full Article on the Portal can be found here.
